I read with interest all the letters commenting on hudud (Islamic penal code) and qisas (retribution/retaliation) as passed by the Terengganu state legislative assembly. My conclusion is that all negative comments made are unfounded, unsubstantiated, and plainly unjustified.

Islamic laws impose heavy penalties to prevent wrongdoing, thus protecting society. Most important of all, its strict rule ensures that the blatant disregard to the process of (secular) law as it is easily trespassed today can be totally stopped. The Islamic law will not and cannot be abused by any party with vested interest.

Those who oppose Islamic law should check how many people, Muslim or non-Muslim, were unjustly persecuted. By comparison, recent regimes like the Khmer Rouge or China under the rule of the late Mao Dze Dong surpassed all memory of human sufferings. Should I also add that the Mahathir regime's misuse of the secular law to ensure his political survival was a travesty of sort?

What about the Jews in Europe under Hitler? Their whole history of survival under Islamic rule is well documented while they were under hot pursuit of the Christians! Which law are they holding on to today when they persecute the Palestinians, both Muslims and the Christians? Is it the Torah that Moses and Aaron subscribe to?

The excuses given to justify opposition to Islamic law are all lame because all these laws as professed by prophets of the Almighty take the interest of humankind against the transgressors. These people oppose for the wrong reasons.

Reasons and arguments are aplenty as they can be craftily created and diverted by the transgressors. They are similar in nature through the history of humankind!

They just have different names and ride different ' vehicles', traversing the historical timeline. We should not be mislead, and most important, we should not fear the truth.
