The headmaster of SK Seri Pristana in Sungai Buloh has been ordered by the Selangor Education Department to go on leave for a week.
The headmaster of SK Seri Pristana in Sungai Buloh has been ordered by the Selangor Education Department to go on leave for a week.
According to Utusan Malaysia, Mohamad Nasir Mohd Noor said the department is expected to complete its investigations in a controversy concerning the school by the time he returns to work.
National news agency Bernama reported that Mohamad Nasir (left) lodged a report at the Saujana Utama police station this morning claiming he had received a death threat and was slandered by various parties, including on Facebook.
SK Seri Pristana is currently the centre of a controversy over the use of a shower room as a makeshift canteen.
Some non-Muslim parents claim that their children were made to eat there during the month of Ramadan.
Mohamad Nasir reportedly said he received a call from a man claiming to be from an NGO two days ago at 10am.
“Aside cursing at me and using hard words, he also said ‘if I meet you, I will kill you',” he was quoted as saying.
Meanwhile, he told Utusan that the makeshift canteen has been operating for three months now, and was set up in order to solve the problem of overcrowding in the school canteen.
"In the mornings the sun blazes right into the canteen, and because the area is very hot the students did not want to eat anything there and instead ate by the drain.
"I noted that the place was not clean, so I placed them in the shower room which has not been fully utilised."
The headmaster explained that students rarely used the shower room because they are allowed to wear sports attire for co-curricular activities.
He also said that he had placed a notice to bar students from using the room as a toilet and had even locked the water pipe in the room.
In addition, the room had been cleaned, and there was even had a sink to enable students to wash their hands before eating.
Meanwhile, it is reported by Oriental Daily that the school's canteen has been reopened for student's use this afternoon, while the makeshift eating room is closed.
