Umno Youth president Hishammuddin Hussein's call to private institutions of higher learning to provide a 10 percent quota for bumiputra students has expectedly led to several bumiputra individuals and organisations rallying to his call.

Among those who jumped on the bandwagon was Dr Abdul Rahman Daud, president of Kesatuan Guru-guru Melayu Malaysia Barat (KGMMB) or Peninsular Malay Teachers Association. He even went a step further by suggesting that bumiputra students be exempted from paying fees.

It is a wonder that the likes of him have not demanded for subsidies in other areas as well like public transport, restaurants, entertainment outlets, recreational clubs and shopping to alleviate their lot.

I think it would be a good idea if they get the subsidy mentality out of their system so that our beloved country can earnestly start working on making the Vision 2020 dream a reality.
