A weak earthquake with a magnitude of 3.6 on the Richter Scale occurred near Kudat, in the northern part of Sabah at 9.14am today.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department in a statement issued here said the epicentre was located at latitude 6.8 (degrees) north and longitude 117.1 (degrees) east, about 377km from Palawan, Philippines and 11km from Pitas, Sabah.

Tremors were also felt in Pitas.

The department will continue to monitor the situation closely.
