Action to be taken over quarry explosion in Johor

The Johor government will not hesitate to take action if there is elements of negligence in an explosion at a quarry near the Seri Alam Industrial area which killed a worker and injured 10 others yesterday.

Menteri Besar Mohamed Khaled Nordin said he was waiting for a report from the relevant agency on the incident.
"While the case is being investigated, I advise the people to not make any speculations on the incident," he said in his Facebook posting today.
He also expressed condolence to the family of the worker killed in the explosion and prayed for the quick recovery of those who were injured.
The worker killed in the 12.30pm explosion was said to be a Nepalese, in his 30s, who was working at a factory located about 500 metres from the quarry.
Eighteen cars, 14 factories and a Tenaga Nasional Berhad substation were also damaged in the incident.
Activities at the quarry had been halted following the explosion.
