MP tells protesters not to disrupt TPPA negotiations

Kota Tinggi member of parliament (MP) Noor Ehsanuddin Mohd Harun Narrashid has told protesters to abide the law and not disrupt ongoing negotiations on the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA).

He said there were other avenues for people to protest on the matter and has invited those concerned to voice out their disagreement during a consultation on an open day organised by the International Trade and Industry Ministry on Aug 1.
"I can assure you that the government is very concerned about this. We (government) care about what people think.
"We are open to recommendations. You can come to MITI’s open day and I am sure more series of consultations will be done," he said during a press conference by the Parliamentary Caucus for TPPA on the sidelines of the 18th round of negotiations of the TPPA in Kota Kinabalu today.
All protesters released
Noor Ehsanuddin was responding to a request by Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar, who was present, for police and local authorities to practice leniency on certain groups objecting to the negotiation.
This followed the arrest of 14 protesters, who called themselves the Sabah TPPA Action Body, at about 9.30am at a leading resort here where the ongoing negotiation is held.
Kota Kinabalu City Police Chief ACP Jauteh Dikun confirmed the arrest and said the protesters were later released.
The TPPA negotiation began here on July 15 from 25.
