I was shocked to read the report Mahathir launches scathing attack on PAS, if all that appears in the article is true, then Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, at 76 years of age, firmly believes that the PAS' God is different from his God.

Being a non-Muslim, I believe there is only one God, and I also understand Muslims only believe in one God. How can Mahathir, being a Muslim, say there is another god for PAS and that God is a "thug".

It is also preposterous to call PAS unIslamic, when all along he has been ranting about being labelled "infidel". Mahathir's attack against a respected and learned religious scholar — Abdul Hadi Awang — is shocking.

Syariah criminal laws have been in force in many countries around the world and seem to be working out well, why not in Malaysia? We cannot suppose these laws are unfair if they have not been implemented.

Trying to politicise the untried Syariah laws (because they threaten Mahathir's stand) and portraying PAS as unjust and unfair is carrying the attack too far. The 12 years of PAS rule in Kelantan has brought better relative fairness as far as daily life of the rakyat is concerned.

The ulama's stand in Kelantan has never put fear in my mind unlike what has been said about them by Mahathir. Let's try out the proposed Syariah laws first and if we don't find the fairness promised we could still go back to the old laws.
