I read your article on the Penans and the launch of yet another campaign to protect them from being logged out of house, home and livelihood. The sad and ironic thing about the situation is that these people are bumiputras.

It remains to be seen whether they have benefitted at all from affirmative action, beyond having an insensitive government trying to 'modernise' them.

So a few questions then arise:

Who really qualifies as a 'bumiputra'? Has all this affirmative action been nothing more than an attempt to better the lives of Malay Muslims? And if affirmative action is only meant to benefit Malay Muslims, why not call a cat by its proper name? Why say 'bumiputra' when you mean 'Malay Muslim'? Perhaps it's because of all those Indonesian immigrants-turned-bumiputras. You know, the ones who moved in last year.

It's enough to make you cry.
