Eighties actress Putri Salbiah charged with cheating

Eighties (1980s) actress Putri Salbiah Megat Razali pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur today to four charges of cheating relating to the purchase of four lots of land and two charges on falsifying documents, three years ago.

On the cheating charges, Putri Salbiah, 49, is alleged to have cheated lawyer Ng Miow Hia, 48, by introducing to him two people, Maajis Senan, 69, and Yang Azizah Mohamed Yaacob, 72,
as Ahmad SK Duis and Sipah Binte Duis @ Sipak Binte Duez.
Ahmad and Sipah are the owners of land parcels Lot 1230, 1231, 1232 and 1233 in Mukim Rim, Jasin, Malacca.
She is alleged to have committed the offences at Restoran Burger King, Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) at 10.45am on April 1, 2010 and 11am on June 23, 2010.
She is also accused of faking identity documents to show Maajis and Yang Azizah were Ahmad and Sipah.
She is liable to be jailed up to seven years and fined or both on the cheating charges and three years and/or fined RM20,000 or both for falsifying documents, if convicted.
Deputy public prosecutor Kevin Morais suggested bail at RM5,000 for each charge, citing that the accused had been uncooperative and was arrested by the Brunei authorities before being brought to Miri in Sarawak to be remanded.
The accused’s counsel Mohd Shahrullah Khan Nawab Zadah Khan urged the court to impose total bail of RM10,000, saying his client operated only small businesses and could not afford a high amount.
He also said she had to care for her father who is ill in Brunei and promised to ensure that she would turn up for each day of the hearing.
Judge Ahmad Zamzani Mohd Zain set bail at RM24,000 for all the charges and also ordered the accused to surrender her passport to the court.
The court set Aug 16 for case management.
