The alleged interference in the airing of a documentary on Nanyang by a MCA top leader is serious in that it involved editorial freedom just like what most people suspect happened in Nanyang after its takeover by the party.

If it is true, then Ling's claim that there is no interference in the editorial of Nanyang is a lie. Actions speak louder than words. What can happen in RTM, a national institution, can surely happen in Nanyang, a company controlled by MCA.

Our national leaders must be prepared to face criticisms from all quarters. Once they are in national politics, anything involving national interest cannot be treated as party matters which only party members can know or decide.

I am sure the producer of the documentary on Nanyang must have felt there was a demand for it before deciding on its production. Having spent time and money on it (bearing in mind public money is involved here) just to have it 'dropped' by an outsider must be frustrating.

On the other hand, the public deserves to know the opinions of those against the takeover instead of just listening and watching prescribed news. Please provide us with information without bias and let us judge for ourselves.

At the moment, the Internet is the only medium with the most freedom of expression (subject to vetting by the editor) but will it also fall victim to government control in the near future?
