In an exclusive interview with Utusan Malaysia, Aziz (right) said a special team has been formed to investigate the problems on why the indelible ink did not last long, and it has been given a month to complete the probe.
He also reiterated that personally, he would not bow to pressure to resign as EC chief despite many such calls having been made.
“They merely want to find a scapegoat and if I resign they will accuse me of being at fault when this is not true,” Aziz said.
The EC has been blamed for the indelible ink fiasco, given that it had claimed the ink would last seven days.
However, some voters reported that the ink could be washed off within hours, hence also creating doubts about the electoral process.
Meanwhile, Sinar Harian today quoted Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Shahidan Kassim as refuting the claim by Pakatan Rakyat that the filing of election petitions by the BN reflected its distrust in the EC.
"The petitions raised by BN are related to offences and not to the EC. Pakatan had purposely twisted the facts. BN's petitions are more toward the offences by Pakatan, not the EC.
"The EC has carried out its responsibilities to its best," Shahidan, who is in charge of parliamentary affairs, is reported as telling the Malay daily.
