BN shortlists three for Kuala Besut by-election

BN has reportedly shortlisted three persons as possible candidates for the upcoming Kuala Besut by-election.

“They are locals, have high qualifications, are prudent and well-known to the locals,” BN deputy chief Muhyiddin Yassin was quoted saying in Utusan Malaysia today.

“The names will be forwarded to the party chairperson (Najib Abdul Razak) and we will decide as soon as possible.”    

However, Muhyiddin did not name the candidates.        

He was also quoted as saying that the Terengganu BN has held meetings and has started preparing for the by-election, including delegation of tasks.

In a related development, Malay-language daily Sinar Harian reported that PAS has yet to discuss the issue of candidacy for the by-election.

“In a day or two, we will decide we would become the candidate in the Kuala Besut by-election” vice-president Mahfuz Omar (right) reportedly said.

The by-election for the state assembly seat must be held within 60 days from June 26, after it fell vacant following the death of the BN’s Dr A Rahman Mokhtar.

The Election Commission is to announce the nomination and polling dates after a special meeting on Friday.
