EC chief receives severed chicken head

It must have been a nasty surprise when a package containing the severed head of a chicken was posted to the office of Election Commission (EC) chairperson Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof a few days ago.

Quoting a police source, Berita Harian today reported that the “smelly” delivery, wrapped in clear plastic, also contained a threatening note, “Resign or... 505”.

This is most probably in reference to the series of 'Black 505' rallies that were held by the opposition nationwide to demand the resignation of the EC leadership, including that of Abdul Aziz and his deputy Wan Ahmad Wan Omar.

The police source had claimed that parcel was addressed to “Aziz Bin Yusof” on “Tingkat 4 SPR”, and came complete with the name of the sender, from Kelana Jaya.

Berita Harian reported that the EC chief advised his staff, who had only opened the box yesterday, to lodge a police report over the matter.

The daily was, however, unable to get Abdul Aziz’s response to the surprise package.

This is not the first time an EC head was targeted.

In 2008, the home of then EC chairperson Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman in Bukit Pantai, Kuala Lumpur, was splattered with red paint.

The move was believed to be due to unhappiness over the EC’s decision to scrap use of indelible ink just days before the historic 2008 polls.
