I actually heard myself chuckling over Karpal Singh's description of Suhakam under Abu Talib Othman as a "lame duck". But there it is. The appointment has made such a mockery of the Malaysian Human Rights Commission.

I do not think Abu Talib Othman is anything like Marzuki Darusman of the Indonesian Human Rights Commission who is also a former attorney-general. Marzuki turned the commission around.

Both Karpal and Lim Kit Siang have raised very good points on Suhakam. Perhaps the review by non-governmental organisations at the end of the 100-day boycott should consider lobbying for Abu Talib's resignation and the re-appointment of the star commissioners whose terms were not renewed.

We have not heard Abu Talib speak in an official capacity yet. It would not come as a surprise if he would support the ISA. In that he has the support of the government only.
