Anwar: No plans for more Black 505 rallies for now

Pakatan Rakyat has no plans for further Black 505 rallies against electoral fraud in the near future, said PKR supremo Anwar Ibrahim.

However, the PKR de facto leader said NGOs may still organise such rallies.

"For now, no. But I cannot speak for the NGOs. As for Pakatan Rakyat, we have to move on," he told a press conference after opening the Pakatan leadership convention in Ampang today.

Anwar added that the "moving on" was only in reference to the rallies, but the opposition coalition will continue to press on with the fight against alleged electoral fraud in the 13th general election.

"The protests have to move on, but in terms of petitions and interactions with other countries... (these will continue)," he said.

Anwar pointed to his recent meeting with Indonesian president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono where he had raised the matter, and added that other countries have also raised queries on the election results.

However, Anwar did not confirm whether there was a transition in Pakatan's strategy from holding rallies to other methods of pursuing the electoral fraud issue, as DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng interjected at this point and asked that the focus be on the immediate haze crisis.

'Meeting with BN must be open'

However, he added that he was open to meeting any leader including from BN but it had to be done transparently together with PKR's partners DAP and PAS.

"I do not reject the possibility of discussions with anyone but it has to be done openly.

"I, (PAS president) Abdul Hadi Awang and (DAP supremo) Lim Kit Siang are prepared to meet Najib or (Deputy Prime Minister) Muhyiddin Yassin openly but not secretly just to secure my position or that of a few leaders," he said.

Anwar also noted that the rumours of his alleged meeting may have raised concerns among PKR's partners that they were being left out of the loop.

"There are rumours that the meeting was supposedly about positions for PKR, and it seemed that PAS and DAP were not given due consideration.

"It is rumours and nothing more than that... I bring this matter up to put an end to it," he said.
