MCA today suspended its former national organising secretary Tee Siew Kiong for three years for defying the party’s stand by accepting a Johor exco post.

NONE Party president Dr Chua Soi Lek ( left in photo ) said the three-year suspension decision was suggested by the MCA disciplinary panel and endorsed by a majority of the presidential council members.

Tee can appeal to the central committee within 14 days, Chua told reporters after chairing the presidential meeting today.

Chua said following the decision, Tee is not allowed to take part in party activities, but being the only Chinese exco member in Johor, he can attend the activities upon invitation.

He said the meeting today has endorsed Perak state liaison secretary Tan Chin Meng as its new national organising secretary.

Tee: Punishment a little bit too harsh

Meanwhile, Tee said he respects and accepts the party’s decision but he felt the punishment was a little bit to harsh on him as he had no choice but to accept the post.

“To me, this (punishment) is a little bit too heavy,” he said, adding that he felt sad as he had contributed to the party which he joined 30 years ago.

He said he has yet to make up his mind whether he wants to appeal the decision.

Tee refused to comment to a question about the different fate befalling him and vice-president Ng Yen Yen who walked away unpunished over her appointment as Malaysian Tourism Promotion Board (MTPB) chief.

“It (Tee’s appointment) has raised a controversy in the party and was politicised as party in-fighting. The presidential council was of the opinion that Tee should be suspended for the sake of party unity,” Chua said in the same press conference.
