I thank YAH who kindly approve my views in his letter Umno's moves schizophrenic, and I welcome his more worthy and thoughtful contribution.

However, I would like to clarify that my letter was not meant to support Anwar's hunger strike — not because I disagree with his action, but because it is irrelevant to my point — using religion as a weapon. Therefore, I think we should equally denounce Anwar if he is also manipulating religion as a political weapon.

Secondly, while I believe that Umno should not manipulate religion, I do not think we could solely denounce Umno, and that was certainly not my view. In fact, PAS deserves an even stronger condemnation, because they were the first ones to bring religion into politics.

Further, I believe we should also condemn and reject anybody else who endorses and joins any of the religious manipulations by PAS — which includes Anwar and Keadilan — if PAS has indeed manipulated religion. Otherwise, we would be practising double standards.

Malaysians seriously need responsible politicians — and the only way we can get responsible politicians is when we as rakyat demand a higher standard from the politicians we have to vote for.
