As a neutral and ordinary member of MCA and supporter of the Barisan Nasional government, I hope the BN presidential council would act decisively without delay to take over the party administration of MCA for a moment to cool down feelings. Otherwise, the larger interests of BN would be adversely affected.

There is a precedent. BN once appointed then deputy chairperson Ghafar Baba to take over MCA for a while to oversee a fair and honest party election.

Since it is now a bit sensitive for any Umno leader to take over, I suggest that MIC president, S Samy Vellu, be appointed by BN to be the mediator and arbitrator. There is certainly no conflict of interest between MCA and MIC. Moreover, Samy is rather respected by many Chinese Malaysians.

The BN-appointed takeover committee should comprise non-Chinese leaders from Sabah and Sarawak so as to be neutral, impartial and disinterested. The takeover committee should then screen the party's membership list to ensure that it is acceptable to both camps. Before that process is complete, all MCA party elections should be halted.

Meanwhile, the BN-appointed takeover committee should also take over the administration of MCA's headquarters, and have access to all its information on membership and geographical distribution of branches. The committee may need to conduct physical surprise checks on the branches to see to it that they really exist. It may also need to conduct random checks to ascertain whether names on the membership list belong to genuine members of MCA, or are still living. Only a clean membership list can restore the image of MCA and the BN.
