MCA Team Bs call for an extraordinary general meeting to inspect and check the party's membership list is certainly a viable option to its current troubles. Indeed, Team B has no other way out before they are voted out from office by delegates elected by members whose status and even existence are in grave doubt. Only by purging the membership list of phantom members could Team B win, and the dignity of the Chinese Malaysian be restored in the eyes of the world and other component parties of the Barisan Nasional, especially Umno and MIC.

Party president Dr Ling Liong Sik must bear a certain degree of responsibility for the current fiasco, too. After spending so many years building up the reputation of MCA, he must not let it go down the drain because of the widespread suspicion of phantom members. Ling must not leave the next generation of MCA leaders and members a party that is thought of as being padded up with 'phantom' members. Otherwise, the sacrifices he made in the last 30 years will be entirely in vain.
