I have been reading all the comments about the issue of segregation and the general trend of those writing in malaysiakini is that there are some grounds for the accusation.

I am not sure about other schools but when the parent-teacher associations (PIBGs) of our school district met, we found that not a single school in the list had this problem.

I am on the PIBG of one of the schools which has been accused of racial segregation by the National Union of the Teaching Profession. The school checked its attendance records for the past five years and I believe that all accused schools had to send the attendance list for the past five years to the Education Ministry. We found in our school that not a single class over the five-year period contained only one race. In fact, the school makes an effort to ensure a racial balance in all classes. Over the past five years there was only one class that consisted of two ethnic groups  all the rest consisted of the three main ethnic groups plus a sprinkling of Orang Asli.

The whole exercise of making the report to the ministry cost the school a lot of time and effort as well as RM1,000 to make the necessary photocopies. NUTP secretary-general N Siva Subramaniam admitted that the list had not been checked before he sent it to the ministry. Shouldn't he, as a former teacher and responsible unionist, check his facts first before making such a serious accusation?

Parents at our school are very vocal and critical but never has anyone raised this issue either with the PIBG or the school administration.
