The Kemaman Municipal Council (MPK) today obtained a judgment in default from the High Court against PAS over a defamation suit involving the Bukit Takal Zoo in Terengganu.

In allowing the MPK’s application, judge Rosilah Yop allowed the council’s application for general and special damages.

Lawyer Azwan Abdul Wahab, representing MPK, told reporters that the judge also fixed cost at RM2,000 and set June 13 to hear submission on the assessment for damages.

Last March 22, MPK filed a suit against PAS, seeking RM5 million in damages from the party which it claimed had distributed pamphlets containing false and defamatory words on the Bukit Takal Zoo.

In previous proceeding, PAS failed to enter its appearance, despite being ordered to do so.
