The recent report by the Education Ministrys committee on segregation which used scheduling and time-table planning as an excuse for the ugly racial segregation practice in schools is nonsense.

When I was in school 20 years ago, we had various programmes but that did not prevent us from ranking students by pure merit.

During my schooldays whenever we have special programmes like pupils own language, religious studies or even something mundane like geography/history, all we did was change classes which took only less than five minutes.

I remember even having to run across a football field because one of the programmes was held in another school. In the US, students switch classes every period and it poses no problem whatsoever.

The excuses given is nothing but blatant cover-ups. Even if students have to be moved from one school to another, it would still not justify segregation. Using an excuse like having to fit in moral education or religious studies in the timetable to justify the segregation is beyond my comprehension.

If principals cannot even manage a few scheduling challenges, they should be fired because it is sheer incompetence in face of the immorality of segregation.

Segregation is evil and the seed of racial and religious disharmony hence the standard should be that racial segregation exist unless proven otherwise. There should be constant effort to erase any excuses for it not to provide excuses for it!
