I think Malaysians continue to be appalled by the apparent speed of police opening the case with regard to the 'NUTP investigation' when reports by victims of Kg Medan wait for an investigation long due.

It is scandalous that the government is ready and quick to file reports and civil suits against the brave officers of National Union of the Teaching Profession who are forwarding real grievances of parents without fear to themselves and their families.

What else can we do? We have gone to Suhakam on many occasions with complaints against police. There was one royal commission on the Anwar 'black eye' incident. Perhaps all opposition parties could with the support of human rights groups develop some kind of mechanism just to target the police responses to government and citizens' complaints besides looking into police conduct and discipline.

A real police reform body developed by citizen's groups to discuss and develop police reform is essential. I think the Bar Council in previous years had some kind of monitoring of the number of people shot by police.

Once the people are mobilised and focused on one project like this, I am sure we can move some agendas. I think we need to target change in a focused manner.
