I refer to Dr S Vijayaratnam's letter, Opposition comedy comes to Ketari, (March 14). Comedy indeed, Dr Vijayaratnam! The opposition may be comical to you, but the ruling coalition  Barisan Nasional  takes the cake for the farcical shows in this country. Consider these:

  • A chief minister who got off scot-free from a sex scandal involving an underaged girl who was punished alongside the poor opposition guy who was just trying to do the right thing by standing up for her rights;

  • A menteri besar caught trying to smuggle millions of dollars from Australia but who by his own admission insisted that he cannot read English;

  • Buying out shares at double market value to save the neck of BNs cronies who had clipped Malaysia Airlines wings in the first place;

  • Broadcasting the Memali video clip that boomeranged when viewers thought it was the government, not the opposition, that was inciting the people with its content;

  • Two million (estimated) illegal immigrants in the country, many of whom possess Houdini prowess in escaping from lockups and prisons;

  • The damning evidence of a year-old mattress (pray tell was it a Dunlopillo or Dreamland) in the incarceration of the former deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim;

  • The co-operative collapses in the 1980s followed by the massive bail-outs in 1990s;

  • Silencing the Chinese voice with the unpopular takeover of two major Chinese language newspapers;

  • A minister dishing out shares to her son-in-law;

  • Bad  or is it just no planning?  that causes taps to go dry in Kuala Lumpur and Melaka again and again and the (in)famous quote that too much or too little water is an act of God; and

  • Flash floods that were supposedly caused by progress, in Penang and Kuala Lumpur.
