The recent Great Escapes of prisoners not only bring shame to the police force itself, but also the country as a whole. I hope Home Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi will make a courageous decision to sack the inspector-general of police immediately to show that the government is serious in maintaining the efficiency and effectiveness of the police force. To let the IGP resign is not enough.

The home minister must not shy away from doing what is necessary after his subordinate has been found to be inefficient and ineffective.
