Don't allow T'ganu to return to 'darkness era', says Najib

TERENGGANU Caretaker premier Najib Abdul Razak today asked the people of Terengganu to make the "right and accurate" decision in Sunday's election to ensure the oil-rich state does not revert to a "darkness era" under the PAS administration before.

Borrowing the slogan of BN's Besut parliamentary candidate Idris Jusoh (right), "do you still remember", Najib reminded the people on how PAS, during its administration, had closed kindergartens, failed to manage the garbage collection and did not honour its promise to implement hudud law (Islamic Penal Code) in the state.

"If the people continue to give their mandate to BN, God willing, the national transformation policy will be continued and Terengganu's landscape will undergo a major change in the next few years," said Najib, who is also BN chairperson, when addressing 10,000 people at the national-level Excellent Rural Area Award at Kampung Bukit Wan, in Setiu.

Also present were Najib's wife, Rosmah Mansor, Menteri Besar, Ahmad Said, who is also BN's candidate for the Kijal state seat, and Idris, the coalition's aspirant for the Besut parliamentary seat.

 Najib said he believed the people would continue to give their mandate to the present state government to ensure Terengganu remained under BN.

He also urged the people to give a strong mandate to BN to enable the coalition to form the next federal government.

Taking a swipe at the opposition pact, the prime minister said the PAS-PKR-DAP pact, was merely political as they do not pursue the same struggles and ideology.

"This is all politics...friendship with Lim Kit Siang (right) is also politics...Hadi has admitted he does not agree with DAP nd PKR.

"If you don't agree, why form a pact?" he asked.

"When you want to form a pact but in the heart, you disagree, it's a leading to a break up. So, how are to trust the opposition?" he asked.

'Play-acting'

Najib also slammed parliamentary opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim for promising to reduce fuel price, which he described as "play-acting", when looking at current developments in Indonesia following the government's decision to raise oil price.

"He (Anwar) thinks it's easy to reduce fuel prices, lower electricity and water tariffs and abolish study loans taken from the National Higher Education Fund Corporation?" If it's easy, why didn't other countries do it?

"Indonesia, a bigger oil producer than us also wants to raise oil price as the government has to pay a heavy subsidy, which is burdensome," he said.

The prime minister said the government had decided to give the 1Malaysia People's Aid (BR1M) and not to reduce fuel price to ensure there was no leakage in the aid disbursement and only the eligible would reap the benefits.

Najib urged the people to evaluate the opposition's "reformasi" that caused disunity among the people while BN's transformation agenda invited the people to perform better for the nation.
