I find Allen Yu's letter "Vagina Monologues ban contradictory" (Feb 8) interesting because it reflects an infantile lack of understanding in the subtlety in life. It also shows that the writer has no respect for the decent female.

While I hold a rather liberal view on sexual education and sexual openness, I also think that there must be a minimum respect for the majority of decent adults. Freer expression and more open discussions of sexual feeling itself should be confined to the private sphere among socially responsible and mature adults. There are things that can be discussed privately, but not publicly.

It is then not a question of openness versus conservatism. It is a question of being able to distinguish the degree of openness in different matters. Women who openly express their sexual feelings only serve to satisfy sexual perverts, male chauvinists, and the profit motive of the commercial producers of indecent films.

The writer also insinuate that Islam may be the cause for the play ban. It reflects a one-dimension prejudice. To ban or not to ban a sexually offensive play does not only concern Islam but decent adults of all races, religions and ideologies.
