PERLIS Caretaker Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has expressed concern over the aggressive behaviour of the opposition in the run-up to the May 5 general election.
PERLIS Caretaker Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has expressed concern over the aggressive behaviour of the opposition in the run-up to the May 5 general election.
He said the opposition was displaying this latest trend probably they felt threatened as the BN was enjoying increasing support from the people.
"The opposition has no etiquette and political culture when campaigning, hence their aggressive and rough attitude.
"Not confident of their own strength and capabilities, they're reacting prematurely beyond the limits of the norm.
"The opposition feels this is a good opportunity to attract attention. Is it right to act violently and create chaos? he asked when speaking at a "leader with the people" gathering in the Arau parliamentary constituency in Kangar, Perlis.
Muhyiddin, who is also BN deputy chairperson, said the recent explosion at the BN election operations room in Nibong Tebal in which a security personnel was injured after being hit by shrapnel was among the opposition's overzealous action.
"I believe some people are trying to create something to disrupt the prevailing peace and harmony. There's proof from the official pamphlet from the opposition to create something on polling day," he told some 2,000 attendees at the gathering.
BN aims for clean sweep in Perlis
The Election Commission had appealed to political parties participating in this election to ensure that there was no untoward incidents on polling day, said Muhyiddin, who is also Umno deputy president.
He said the EC and security forces would take adequate preventive measures to allay voters' concern when they come out to cast their ballots on May 5.
The caretaker deputy prime minister also expressed his confidence in Perlis BN's seriousness to keep the Arau seat with BN.
Earlier, Arau Umno division chief Dr Shahidan Kassim said BN would wrest the two state seats - Simpang Empat and Sanglang - under the Arau parliamentary seat from PAS in this election.
"We'll ensure the whole Arau parliamentary constituency is under BN this time," added Shahidan, who is also BN's candidate for Arau.
Also present were caretaker Menteri Besar Md Isa Sabu and BN candidates for the two state seats.
