Soi Lek: PM says plenty more time before GE13

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak had informed BN component chiefs that there was still plenty more time before the 13th general election, said MCA president Chua Soi Lek.
He has attended three meetings to finalise the candidates list and was told by PM there is still time to provide new names.

"Yesterday, I attended the third round of meetings to finalise the list of election candidates.
I asked the prime minister how long more do I have to provide new names for the candidate list, he said there was still a lot more time.
"I don't understand what he meant but I feel syok (good) that there is a lot more time," he told bemused party members at the MCA headquarters when launching its 1,000-day report card tonight.
Chua added he had asked the premier if MCA should announce its candidate list earlier in light of DAP's move to deploy its heavyweights there but the premier had given the same reply that there was still a lot more time.
Chua said the party's move to launch its 1,000-day report card under his leadership was a bid to dispel the myth by DAP that MCA had done nothing for the Chinese community.
The report list 47 contributions by MCA in politics, education, economy, culture and society side-by-side DAP's contribution which for the most time, was left blank except for the words "no contribution".
The most extensive contribution listed by the party was in the area on education where it boasts of securing scholarships, education loans and accreditation as well as new Chinese schools for the Chinese community.
MCA unveils panda mascot
Chua also unveiled the party's general election mascot in the form of a panda, with the 1Malaysia logo emblazoned on its belly.
However, Chua said the panda dubbed 'Wen Wen' which means 'stability' was not meant to compete with DAP's hornbill mascot dubbed 'Ubah'.
"The reason why we chose a Panda is simple, it is to show that our prime minister has worked hard to foster good relations with China and we are one of their most important trade partners.
"Unlike (Opposition Leader) Anwar Ibrahim, who is only interested in the United States, Israel and the middle east. Let's not talk about (PAS president) Hadi Awang who only knows about the middle east.
"It is our prime minister who has supported China-Malaysia relations, so we should support our prime minister," he said.
Chua said the party had booked 200,000 "Wen Wen" and they sold out at every ceramah.
"We are worried we may run out of them before nomination day," he said.
More energy
Chua also urged party members to adopt a more energetic campaign mode ahead of the general election.
"This is the first time we are using 'war trucks' in the general election, we need to create an exciting atmosphere and not be too old fashioned.
"For example even if we were to use music, it needs to be hot, don't play the MCA song every day, use more modern songs," he said.
He also called all members to put up BN flags as much as possible as they would, in one way or another, influence voters.
"When voters see left and right, and even above the longkang (drain) there are BN flags, eventually they will think there is only one choice," he said.
