Penang is currently undergoing a hot spell, with temperatures reaching up to of 35 degrees Celsius in the afternoon as a result of the sun being aligned with the earth now.

A Penang Meteorological Department spokesperson said the phenomenon, which started on March 21, has resulted in the northern part of peninsula Malaysia to experience a heat wave.

“An overhang of haze has also contributed to the bad weather. It is collecting hot air and there is no rain to clean up the air,” he told Bernama when asked about the hot spell.

The bad weather is expected to continue for the next several days, and rain is forecast next week and the following weeks.

The public are advised to minimise outdoor activities and drink a lot of water to prevent any illness during this period.
