The lawyer who filed the motion for the Bar Council to set-up an independent investigation committee to probe the person who had drafted P Balasubramaniam's second statutory declaration (SD) withdrew her motion today.

Wan Hidayati Nadirah Wan Ahmad Nasir, who filed the motion last Friday said she and those who supported the motion have decided to withdraw the motion at the Malaysian Bar's 66th annual general meeting (AGM) this morning, as lawyer Americk Sidhu's revelations during the AGM has served the same purpose.

“We only wanted to know who the senior lawyer responsible in making the second SD is, and we have achieved it with Americk's revelation today.

“However, we may act on this further by lodging a police report on this matter for the authorities to act upon,” said Wan Hidayati Nadirah, along with Fadiah Nadwa Fikri and the others who supported the motion who call themselves the ‘Young Female Lawyers’.

NONEWan Hidayati had tabled the motion and this was supported by 13 other lawyers including Fadiah.

Fadiah (right) said the motion was withdrawn on a technicality, as they did not know that Americk would come forward and reveal the name of the lawyer in question, and make it public.

She added Americk’s disclosure that the lawyer is Cecil Abraham is not considered hearsay, as he got the admission directly from Abraham himself two weeks ago.

Fadiah said what they are attempting to do is to uphold justice as somebody was covering up something sinister like murder.

Wan Hidayawati, who has about six years legal experience, said they hope the Bar Council will proceed with the next steps.

With this revelation, she said the authorities and the Bar Council have a basis to initiate investigations into the lawyer.

Wan Hidayawati and Fadiah said they will decide on their own course of action next week.

Enough reason to act

Americk revealed during the AGM today that senior lawyer Abraham had admitted to him in confidence that he had drafted the second SD for Balasubramaniam on the instructions of then Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

NONEAmerick, when met after the AGM, expressed his apology to Abraham for breaking his oath of silence.

He cited a greater good in continuing the late Balasubramaniam's (left) quest for justice for murdered Mongolian interpreter Altantuya Shaariibuu.

The private eye died of a heart attack yesterday in a dramatic turn of events, after last week expressing a desire to see justice for Altantuya.

Americk said, “As I have said I have nothing against Abraham; he is a good lawyer and I have respect him.”

“Sometimes as humans people make a mistake, and it is up to him to make amends,” he said, adding that Abraham was not present at today’s AGM.
