Police attempted to conduct a search at PKR organ Suara Keadilan’s office today in a move said to be related to the sedition charge against party vice president Tian Chua.

A staff member told Malaysiakini that six police personnel showed up at their office at around 10.15am with a search warrant.

NONEThey told the police to speak to lawyer Latheefa Koya first before proceeding, and they subsequently left without further action.

Lawyer Eric Paulsen later told Malaysiakini that Latheefa had protested the police search and the latter eventually agreed that there was no need to conduct one.

They said all they wanted was the transcript of the Chua interview published in the organ.

Paulsen with Suara Keadilan editor Fazallah Pit and journalist Aisha Geoffrey subsequently handed the transcript to the Pudu Police Station at 1pm.

NONE“Actually they could have gotten the transcript from us when they were at the office this morning, there was no need for a search,” said Paulsen.

The KL Sessions Court charged Chua yesterday under Section 4(1)(b) of the Sedition Act 1948 for allegedly saying, at 11am on March 1, that the armed crisis in Lahad Datu was a Umno conspiracy.

Chua claimed trial and is out on a RM5,000 bail.

The PKR leader maintains his statements only referred to the initial media blackout on the Sulu intrudion in Sabah, and to attempts to implicate PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim in the incident.

He added that he stands by his actual quotes.
