Pokok Sena MP Mahfuz Omar is urging that an emergency parliamentary session be held as soon as possible to discuss the security situation in Sabah.

“I want the government to present a white paper in the special parliamentary session to explain the Lahad Datu incident. The people are raising questions about the issue on how the intruders could slip past our security.

“Therefore, we ask the government to explain the situation via a white paper in parliament so that we know how it could happen, because to date there is no convincing answer on whether the safety of the country or its people are guaranteed,” he said.

NONEHe was speaking at a press conference at PAS’ headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.

A skirmish last Friday has left two Malaysian police officers and 12 Lahad Datu intruders dead.

Over 100 intruders are still believed to be holed up in Kampung Tanduo, Lahad Datu, and police said an armed group have also landed in Kanak, which is located between Lahad Datu and Semporna.

Deaths among the security force’s ranks have now climbed to eight in two days after inspector-general of Police Ismail Omar confirmed that six police officers were killed in an ambush in Semporna last night.

Therefore, said Mahfuz, who is also a PAS vice-president, “The white paper needs to be presented to inform society and the people, and when there is a special parliamentary session, that is the proper time to give views and opinions on what solutions the government can take immediately,” he said.
