Following the revelations by both carpet businessman Deepak Jaikishan and private investigator P Balasubramaniam on the murder of Mongolian woman Altantuya Shaariibuu, PAS vice-president Mahfuz Omar has urged the authorities to reopen the investigation on the gruesome case.

"The confession of Bala and sensational expose by Deepak on the prime minister and his wife more or less have untangled the mystery behind the murder of Altantuya.

"The expose also brought in new evidence which is very important to the murder case,” he said in a statement today.

Hence he demanded that the police and Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) reopen the investigation papers of the case and record statements from Bala, Deepak, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor, as well as other individuals mentioned by Deepak.

“Musa Hassan, who was the inspector-general of police during the investigation and prosecution of the case, also said in his press conference early this month that this case should be reopened if there is new evidence.”

Mahfuz was referring to both Deepak’s and Bala’s statements made on Feb 22 and Feb 24 respectively on the murder case.

Deepak’s statement, which has been published in news portal Malaysia Chronicle, implicated Najib and Rosmah in the murder, while Bala, upon his arrival at the KL International Airport, publicly swore that his first statutory declaration in July 2008 linking Najib to Altantuya was the truth.
