Kedah state exco member and PKR Kulim assemblyperson Lim Soo Nee has defended the Chinese New Year performance by scantily-clad female dancers he had organised last Saturday in Kulim, arguing that the Chinese Hungry Ghost Festival also sees such performances.

He believed that other state and parliamentary representatives have attended such events.

NONE"Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng had also attended such events before," Lim (left) told Sin Chew Daily.

The three-hour performance organised by Kulim PKR last Saturday featured three female dancers with backs and bellies exposed.

It has drawn flak from Pakatan Rakyat's own coalition partners DAP and PAS, and invited a probe by the Kedah government.

Defence attracts penalty

PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim also said that the party will investigate the event.

Lim reiterated that the performance was to rebut an earlier allegation that the state government had issued a guideline restricting public performances during Chinese New Year.

"I did no wrong. The person who should explain this issue did not come forward. The one who lit the fire is seen as innocent whereas I, who tried to put out the fire, has been blamed.

"Whatever action that will be taken by the party against me including punishment, I will bear it," he was quoted as saying.
