Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said today the Penang state assembly would be dissolved when parliament is dissolved to pave the way for simultaneous federal and state elections.

Lim Guan Eng at DAP AGMHe said he did not agree with Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim who had said yesterday that Selangor would go ahead and dissolve the state assembly after the Chap Goh Meh next month.

"There is no difference in dissolving the state assembly after Chap Goh Meh or in March because the elections are almost here.

"He (Abdul Khalid) can dissolve the state assembly but the date of the election will have to be set by the Election Commission (EC). It is my opinion that the state elections should be held simultaneously with the parliamentary election," he told a news conference.

Lim, who is DAP secretary-general, said Abdul Khalid's decision was not that of the Pakatan Rakyat because the opposition had not discussed the matter.

"If he wants to suggest the same for the states under the Pakatan Rakyat pact, it had to be discussed earlier. But if he wants to call the elections only in Selangor, that is another matter. He has not contacted me so far," he said.

Lim said he believed that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak would dissolve parliament after the meeting of the Conference of Rulers on Feb 28.

"At that time, he (the prime minister) can have an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to get His Majesty's consent. So, let's wait," he said.
