Tan Ping Wee, the second Malaysian who was killed in the Algerian hostage crisis at the gas facility complex in In Amenas, Algeria, was laid to rest at the Fairy Park Memorial in Sendayan near Port Dickson, today.

A family member said Tan's body arrived at his house - No 6, Taman Bukit Samudra, Kampung Paya - at 2am this morning where family members, relatives and friends had started gathering last night.

The funeral procession started from Taman Bukit Samudra at 11am and headed to the Fairy Park for burial.

Also in attendance was Negeri Sembilan MCA chairperson Yeow Chai Thiam.

Tan leaves behind wife Koh Siow Mun and a 16-year-old son.

The remains of Tan and Chong Chung Ngen arrived at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport Cargo Complex (KLIA), Sepang from Algiers at 8.30pm last night.

During the Jan 16 incident, a militant group held 130 Amenas OGPC staff from various countries, including five Malaysians, at In Amenas.

The action was believed to be in retaliation against the Algerian government for allowing French fighter jets into its airspace to quell Muslim militants in Mali.

Three other Malaysians - K Ravi, Lau Seek Chiang and Patrick Purait Awang - who were also working at the gas facility complex in In Amenas, have since returned home safely.
