BN has the ability to obtain a two-third majority in the 13th general election (GE), that is expected any time soon, Department of Special Affairs (Jasa) director-general Fuad Hassan said.

He said to garner two-third majority, BN needs to draw at least 30 percent votes from the Chinese voters, and respectively 65 percent from the Malay and Indian voters, nationwide.

Fuad expressed confidence that the Malay support for BN in Johor could exceed 80 percent while support from Indian voters has also recovered fully from the fall in the 2008 elections and so too is the support from the Chinese community.

"God willing... BN could obtain a two-third victory in the upcoming general election if we continue to work hard and strive to achieve what was targeted," he said to a question from a participant in the Johor Social Media Partner gathering, at the Johor International Convention Centre in Johor Bahru today.

Internet and social media crucial

Meanwhile, he said, the BN social media machinery, inclusive of Twitter, Facebook and other mediums are better prepared and able to deal with attacks from the opposition, compared with previous elections.

Thus, the groups need to continue with their efforts to reach about 2.8 million young voters, who will cast ballots for the first time in the 13th general election, Fuad said.

The young generation he said, no longer relied on traditional media such as newspapers and television to obtain information, but depended entirely on the Internet and social media such as Facebook and Twitter.
