MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek has issued an ultimatum to Human Resources Minister Dr S Subramaniam, to resolve issues arising out of the minimum wage policy before Chinese New Year next month.
 
NONEShould Subramaniam fail to do so, Chua said, the MCA would support small- and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) in holding a demonstration.

“The human resources minister should decide as soon as possible, before Chinese New Year,” he told a press conference after the party’s presidential council meeting today.
 
Chua said the ministry should adopt MCA’s proposal that the levy, hostel and meal expenses be paid by foreign workers, or many SMEs could go bankrupt under the financial burden.

Chinese New Year this year falls on Feb 10 and 11.

Chua said that he had contacted Subramaniam several times, but the latter didn’t clearly respond on whether MCA’s suggestions would be adopted.

He also said that the MCA leadership has always advised its grassroots leaders to solve this matter through negotiations and discussions and not by protests or rallies.

The opposition, Chua added, should not once again politicise this matter.
