A total of 21illegal immigrants from Burma were arrested in Sungai Batu Pahat near here yesterday by Anti-Smuggling Unit personnel and Kampung Syed Omar Voluntary Patrol Scheme members.

Aged between 15 and 40 years, they were rounded up while trying to flee from an area
merely about 200 metres from the Malaysian-Thailand border this evening, Chuping Anti-Smuggling Unit commander Syed Basri Syed Ali said.

Syed Basri said the male immigrants, believed to have been brought in by human smugglers, had been handed over to the Immigration Department for entering the country without travel documents.
