Expressing regret over what had happened at last December's Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) forum, a group of students has challenged Suara Wanita 1Malaysia (SW1M) chairperson, Sharifah Zohra Jabeen Syed Shah Miskin to debate with UUM student KS Bawani.

The group told a press conference with Bawani today, that a series of debates and forums are being planned to discuss the issue of free education.

NONEBawani (left) herself has confirmed that she will attend two of the events and hopes to see Sharifah there.

"We will be holding a workshop on free education on the 26th of this month, at the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall (KLSCAH).

"I also invite Madam Sharifah to come and discuss the issue with us," said the law student, who has gained widespread fame over the Internet for protesting during a brainwashing forum organised by SW1M last December.

Another event that Bawani will be attending is a forum organised by Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM).

Titled “Academic freedom and the human rights”, the forum has also confirmed the attendance of former law professor Abdul Aziz Bari, and Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (UIAM) lecturer Maszlee Malik.

NONEA representative from SAMM, Wan Noor Faril Azli, said that the organiser has sent an invitation to the SW1M office a few days ago, and that they will be going there later this afternoon to give an official invitation to Sharifah.

Other NGOs that attended the press conference today are Gerakan Menuntut Pendidikan Percuma (GMPP), Solidariti Mahasiswa Malaysia (SMM), Kumpulan Mahasiswa Unisel, Malaysian Youth and Student Democratic Movement (DEMA), Gabungan Mahasiswa Islam Se-Malaysia (Gamis) and Jaringan Rakyat Tertindas (Jerits).

Showing support towards Bawani, they also demanded an open apology from Sharifah for previously berating the former in the forum.

However, Bawani has said that the apology is not important for her.
