Police allow second autopsy on custodial death victim

Police have allowed a second post-mortem examination to be conducted on custodial death victim Chang Chin Te.

According to Gobind Singh Deo, the lawyer for Chang's widow, police informed him of this two hours after his client submitted a written request for the procedure.

"We have good news. We understand that Bukit Aman has no objection to the family's request for a second autopsy.

"So now, the hospital will contact the police for a confirmation," he told reporters waiting at the gates of the Bukit Aman federal police headquarters today.

Earlier today, Gobind accompanied Chang's widow and her 30 friends to Bukit Aman to submit the letter.

OCPD objected

News about the police green light for the second post-mortem examination was conveyed to the group about two hours later.

The family had earlier sought permission for a second autopsy from Subang Jaya district police chief Yahaya Ramli, but it was denied.

The letter was received by a public relations officer, Lai Chee Ching, who fought back tears when speaking to Chang's wife.

Also present was Subang MP R Sivarasa, who is acting as the family's adviser. Chang's family resides within the Subang parliamentary constituency.

Gobind, who is also the Puchong MP, said the family members could not perform the funeral rites before knowing the real reason behind Chang's death.
