DAP has predicted that Parliament will be dissolved after Chinese New Year and before March 27, the date the Negri Sembilan assembly term expires.

Party strategist Liew Chin Tong (below) on his Facebook today speculated that Prime Minister Najib Razak would not want to avoid dissolving Parliament during the Chinese festive season, but that his time would run out in with the end of the Negri Sembilan state legislature’s tenure.

NONE“I predict that the federal Parliament will be dissolved between Feb 25 and March 27.

“Feb 25 because Feb 24 is the last day of Chinese New Year.

“BN component parties had a hard time why Parliament was dissolved on the seventh day of CNY, i.e. Feb 13, back in 2008. Najib is keen to avoid that,” wrote the Bukit Bendera MP.

“There was talk that polling day would be outside of school holidays in late March to avoid urban folks from returning to their home town to vote,” he added in the posting.

There are signs that Liew’s prediction - one of many on the date of the GE that has invited speculation since early 2011 - may not be off the mark.

azlanLast week Umno Youth Chief Khairy Jamaluddin tweeted, “Last day to dissolve Parliament is Aprl 28. But the last day to dissolve Negri Sembilan’s assembly is March 27. So...”

Yesterday, Umno Information chief Ahmad Maslan also reminded the BN election machinery to open an operations room in every polling district in the country by Feb 1.

Meanwhile last week Second Finance Minister Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah announced that a deluge of Budget 2013 goodies must be dispensed before the end of March.

He said these include the 1Malaysia People's Aid 2.0 (BR1M 2.0), Early Schooling Special Assistance, 1Malaysia Book Voucher and 1Malaysia Contribution for Veterans Without Pension (SVTB1M).

Budget 2013 has been widely criticised as being an election budget bent on handing out goodies to attract voters, rather than to tackle the country’s dire economic problems.
