Three suspects detained in torched JPJ vehicle case

Police detained three suspects to facilitate investigations into the damaging of a Seri Manjung Road Transport Department (RTD) official vehicle by members of the public at Pekan Ayer Tawar, yesterday.

Perak police chief Mohd Shukri Dahlan said the three men were nabbed today and yesterday at separate locations.
"We're still investigating the incident and will detain a few more suspects involved," he said when contacted today, and declined to comment further on the case.
The RTD vehicle was overturned and torched by the public after a 10-vehicle pile up at KM12 of Jalan Ipoh-Lumut near Sekolah Menengah Methodist, Ayer Tawar.
Manjung deputy police chief DSP Ahmad Mat Isa said about 30 bystanders in the area set upon the officers, claiming the accident had been caused by them.
Four people were seriously injured and another 11 sustained minor injuries.
Union condemns damage to vehicle
Meanwhile, the Peninsular Malaysia Road Transport Officers Union has condemned the damage to the RTD vehicle.
Union president Hamzah Masri has urged the police to bring the culprits to book as they had taken the law into their own hands.
"I hope the public will not act irrationally, whenever they are unhappy with the action of the authorities," he told reporters today, at the closing of a Baling district level 1Community 1RTD programme by RTD deputy director-general Ariffin Che Mat.
