Spread rally info widely, Anwar tells M'sians abroad

As thousands of supporters flooded Stadium Merdeka for the People's Uprising Rally, opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim issued a statement urging Malaysians and supporters abroad to join in by spreading information on the event.

"As a Malaysian abroad to vote in the coming election, express yourself as a free individual your opinion on what is happening back home in Malaysia so that many more know about our challenges, to provide support to us back home working with limited resources and instil confidence in your family members still in Malaysia that change is possible and is near.

"Keep tweeting and posting all day, keep talking, keep sharing, every voice matters, every effort adds on to building a flood of hope, and by the day dwarfing the dam of intolerance and aloofness built up by those who rule today.

"That one day, the dam will break and sunlight will shine again in our lives," he said in the statement.

Anwar addressed the rally which had ballooned to over 100,000 inside and outside of stadium as of 3pm.

"Thank you for coming together for today's Himpunan Kebangkitan Rakyat, to stand together with others to show that Malaysia and its people matter.

"Kebangkitan Rakyat may have various issues championed, but they are all connected, that Malaysia will be better when the voices of the many are heard," read the statement.

Rally shows M'sians stand as one

Anwar said today's peaceful gathering in the capital and around other venues in the country and abroad, is to show so many of Malaysians standing together, with one voice - a voice for change.

"Whether to reform elections, provide free elections, to halt Lynas or to defend Felda families.

"We want a free and fair elections. You have a vote and I have a vote. No one should steal our votes. We shall work to defend our votes and will not allow anyone to mock our votes. KL112 says, reform elections now.

"Our children are the future, and guaranteeing free education to all Anak Malaysia is a responsibility, not a means to place debt on the young. KL112 says, free education is a right.

"Business cannot outweigh environmental safety, which is why protecting the safety of the people of Kuantan cannot be an afterthought. KL112 says 'No' to Lynas," said the PKR de facto leader.

Anwar stressed that planters and their families are not commodities to be traded as seen in the forced-through public listing of Felda and the financial consequences these people are facing today.

"KL112 says, decide what's right for the planters not what is profitable to a small group feeding on the weak."

The message conveyed by the rally is clear, he said, that government cannot be about ignoring the people's voice.
