The water supply disruption in the Klang Valley, which has been ongoing for the past two weeks, is expected to be fully recovered by next Thursday.

Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) chief executive officer Ruslan Hassan said the disruption, which affected over 27,000 accounts, would be resolved after the installation of bypass pipes from Air Dusun Kubong pool to AU3 Baru and AU3 Lama pools were implemented last Thursday.  

“The bypass work was done immediately upon approval from Span (National Water Service Commission) and we have been working day and night to ensure that it will be completed by this Sunday or Monday morning.

“Upon completion of the bypass work, the water supply disruption is expected to be fully recovered on Wednesday or Thursday,” he told reporters during the distribution of drinking water to residents at Sri Melaka flats in Kuala Lumpur today.

He said the disruption of the water supply was due to the decline in the water pumping level from the Wangsa Maju pump house by 30 million litres per day (MLD).

Ruslan said the system at the Wangsa Maju pump house was working at the limited level of 180 MLD as compared to 210MLD previously to avoid damage due to over-pressure.

However, he said the bypass project was only a short-term solution and to ensure that the problem would not recur, another pump house with a capacity of 120 MLD would be built next to the Wangsa Maju pump house.
