Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM), a NGO supporting the Himpunan Kebangkitan Rakyat (People’s Uprising Rally), has claimed to have received a threatening text-message ahead of Saturday's rally.

It implicates "80 NGOs" including Pekida and Perkasa, as well as Umno Youth, but their representatives could not be immediately reached for comment.
 
The message, sent two days ago, reads: ‘We will disrupt the illegal assembly…we will wait at the Dataran Merdeka the night before. Do not become national traitor. Do not become Chinese (and) Anwar’s tool.’
 
Federal Territories SAMM coordinator Shariful Azmir Mustafa warned those involved “not to try and stop democratic processes and freedom of speech”.

“Their behaviour shows the real face of BN, which does not respect the constitution and the principles of the Rukun Negara,” he told reporters this afternoon.
 
However, he said he does not plan to lodge a police report as he "is not interested in responding to provocation”.
 
Malaysiakini made several attempts to contact the telephone number attached to the text-message but did not get a response.

Flowers for cops on duty
 
Shariful had earlier led a six-member team to the Dang Wangi police station to hand over a bouquet of chrysanthemums to “show appreciation to the police who will be on duty during the Saturday rally”.

Acting deputy station chief M Nazir accepted the bouquet, but stopped SAMM from distributing pamphlets within the police station. He suggested that they do outside.
 
Shariful urged the police to be prepared and to arrest agent provocateurs during the rally.

The use of Stadium Merdeka as the venue was approved today, while Inspector-General of Police Ismail Omar has pledged that he and the police force will serve as ‘facilitators’ during the rally.
