MCA to DAP: Sue Microsoft for polls blunder

A gleeful MCA is making much of the vote-counting ‘glitch’ in the recent party elections of arch-rival DAP.
The MCA central committee apparently found the matter so intriguing that it discussed the matter "at length" when it met yesterday.
"(This was) to find if MCA can learn anything (from the episode)," party president Dr Chua Soi Lek (right in photo) told reporters after the meeting.
While he said the MCA could not find anything that it could learn, he did have a few suggestions for the DAP.
"It blamed Microsoft Excel (software programme for the error). If (so), then DAP should sue Microsoft," he said.
Chua pointed out, though, that millions of Internet users around the globe have been using the software without similar problems.
Last month, the DAP’s election to fill posts in the central executive committee (CEC) had been marred by a computer spreadsheet data entry error involving seven candidates.
As a result, Vincent Wu (left) was erroneously named as a CEC member while Zairil Khir Johari, who narrowly made the cut, was wrongly named as among the candidates with the lowest votes.
On Jan 3, the DAP CEC had made the matter public, saying this was in the interests of transparency.
Chua said the DAP should take this a step further and that the CEC should resign en masse in order to facilitate a fresh election “if the DAP is indeed transparent, democratic and credible”.
He said Wu, whose position in the CEC was invalid, had already attended the first meeting immediately after the election when appointments to various posts were made.
"The question now is whether the CEC is valid," said Chua.
‘Opposition behind Najib rumour’
On a separate matter, he blamed the opposition for spreading the rumour that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak had suffered a minor stroke.
Describing this as an act of "gutter politics", he said it was done to cause the public to lose faith in the BN.
Najib has denied the rumour.
