The ongoing water crisis in Klang Valley is set to end soon, said Syabas corporate affairs executive director Abdul Halim Mat Som.

The water pump in both pump houses are fixed and running but not at a maximum capacity, he told Bernama .

“The pump has been back in service since last week but we have not maximised the capacity for fear of overloading which could result to another water crisis,” he said.

Abd Halim added as Cheras area is the furthest and highest in elevation, the area is experiencing water shortage the longest and it will take some time before water supply is back to normal in the area.

Meanwhile, residents in Bandar Sri Permaisuri, Cheras claim as at 4pm today there is still no water supply to the area.

A resident who only wants to be known as Nur, 31, said she received a call from her child's daycare centre asking her to pick up her child as the centre is closing due to the water shortage.

“I have to take leave from work today, I do hope the water problem is solved soon as I do not know how much longer we (residents) can take this,” she said.

Sarbanun Hassan, who runs a daycare centre in Bandar Seri Permaisuri, said she had to close her daycare centre as she had problems with getting water supply.

“We need water to wash the babies’ bottles, bathe them and for other hygiene purposes. Since the water situation here has not been resolved, I have had to call parents asking them to pick up their children, and offered to give them refunds for the day,” she said.

Sarbanun added she has 45 children aged between three months and nine years at her centre.

She also said she has asked parents who still want to send their children to the centre to provide them with five litres of water per child for their child’s own use.
