New Penang DOs named after MACC arrests

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has announced the appointment of Jusni Ismail as the new district officer for Seberang Perai Tengah with effect from today.

He replaces Roslan Yahya (left) who was detained on Jan 3 by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for allegedly covering up a sexual harassment case.

Roslan has since been released on police bail after his statement was recorded.

State secretary Farizan Darus witnessed the handover of the post to Jusni.

“It is business as usual,” Lim told a press conference today, pointing out that the state government has "zero tolerance for corruption".

"The Penang administration is not compromised by this event. It is a corruption case where we will give full cooperation if needed," he said.

Jusni (right) previously served with the Seberang Perai Utara office.

Lim maintained that the case allegedly involving Roslan has nothing to do with the state government which has always been serious in fighting corruption.

“All we know (about this) is from the press. We will take action when we have further (information). We will not cover up this case," he said.

Lim noted however that the MACC - which conventionally does not disclose much about corrupt cases that are being investigated - has changed its modus operandi (MO) this time around.

"We hope they will change their MO in the future. We hope they will look into the three reports we have lodged with them, where one of the accused has admitted the matter. The MACC has yet to take action on these (cases)," he said.

On possible action against the Deputy CM Mansor Othman's aide - who was also detained on Jan 3 by the MACC - Lim expressed the need to be fair.

"We hope to have enough information by Thursday for the state exco meeting," he said.

"If he is in any contract with the state government, we will definitely take action."

Roslan transferred

Lim also announced the appointment of Saodah Nawawi as the new district officer for Seberang Perai Utara.

She was deputy district officer at the same office, and is the second woman to be appointed to a district officer's post.

In a press statement issued later in the day, Farizan officially announced the two appointments, saying that the reshuffle is part of the administration's effort to continue effective service.

Farizan also announced that Roslan has been transfered to the state secretariat office from today, but did not state the post assigned.
